How drone footage can support your marketing

Drones have become a great way to get a new perspective for content, without having to spend a fortune on the equipment you needed a few years ago. In the last 6 months, we have invested in a drone to give more opportunities to our clients to get aerial footage, especially our construction and manufacturing businesses.

So why should you look at investing in drone footage for your content?

It elevates your brand… literally

If you want to show off your office building in a video introducing your business, or following someone around a site, it can give you some amazing shots to use in your content. Straightaway it makes your business seem like you’ve invested in quality and can make you look impressive to potential clients. It gives a cinematic feel to videos, which will ultimately give you more interactions on your social content. This one isn’t the most technical point to make, but in all honesty, drone footage looks really cool when used in videos.

You can create a lot of content from one shoot

The footage you get from a drone flight can be used in so many different ways. You can use bits of the video for your website, social posts, explainer videos and case studies, and also use the photography in all marketing materials and brochures. You can use all of this from one drone flight, so imagine the amount of content you could get if you did this regularly on your projects?

Show off your projects in a new way

If you work on a lot of projects that happen over a long period of time, drone footage can help capture the progress of the site and see the action from above. This can help on platforms such as LinkedIn to show how the work is continuing, then at the end of a project, you could put the video together to create a case study on the project as a whole. Any photography can also be used, giving your projects an interesting view point, rather than just seeing small sections of it from the ground.

Capture scale that ground photography can’t

Drones are great for showing the scale of your business. You may have large premises which can help show clients you can work on large scale production or projects and the investment you have made into your facilities. Or if you are on a large construction site, you can show your team in action and show what you can do with the context of drone photography.

You don’t just need to use drones outdoors

Drones are mostly used outside in large spaces and can really help show large expanses. This is great for construction or outdoor projects, but you can also use drones indoors. Drones can be used in warehouses or large plan offices to help film spaces or people working. If you have a new piece of equipment or a newly wrapped van, you can use drones to show them off without having to worry as much about reflections. Of course, you need to be much more careful in these spaces, especially if there is moving equipment, but you can get some great results. You may just need to practise your flying a bit before going indoors!

It’s not as expensive to get the same great results

If you wanted the same sort of footage 10 years ago, you would have needed very expensive equipment (or even a helicopter) to get the same effects as you can get now. Imagine Julie Andrews standing on the top of the mountain in The Sound of Music. If that was filmed now, you’d be able to do the same effect with a drone, rather than knocking your subject onto the floor when you get too close with a helicopter!

Most drones now can have great film and photography quality without a big price, but you do need to have the correct equipment, insurances and licenses to fly properly.

You don’t have to invest in your own drone

Drones are great pieces of equipment, but they do take time to master, and once you have the footage, you then need to edit it together to create something that can make an impact on your marketing.

You also need to consider the logistics involved in drone flying for businesses. Permissions to fly in certain locations, flying licenses and risk assessments all need to be in place before any flying can take place. If you are in city locations, this is where you need to have extra planning in place, which could take some time to organise. If you don’t think you will use it all of the time, or don’t have a member of staff who would want to use the equipment, reach out and we can let you know more about our content days or help provide wider marketing support for your business.
